Meet the Team
When you work with Federal Retirement USA, you’re talking to real people who’ve spent years helping federal employees make sense of complex benefits. Our team knows the system inside and out — and we’re here to make it simple for you.

Owner/Founder
William Upchurch
With over 25 years of entrepreneurial experience, David Upchurch has witnessed many families and Federal Employees struggle with financial management, particularly when it comes to their federal benefits. While they often excel in service and sales, managing money can be a significant challenge. This realization inspired David to dedicate his career to mastering finance and building meaningful relationships that allow him to genuinely help others achieve their retirement goals.
David became a licensed insurance professional in 2003 and has a true passion for assisting clients with their insurance and financial needs. His top priority is always doing what’s best for the client, and over the past 23 years, he has built many valuable and lasting relationships along the way, making him a trusted contact for retirement planning.
David and his wife, Rhonda, live in Medina, TN and have been happily married for over 30 years. They have 2 grown children, along with two grandchildren. Their family cherishes time together, especially by the backyard pool.
Faith plays a central role in David’s life. He serves as a Deacon at Oakfield Baptist Church and as Vice President of Jabez Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping those in need, particularly in the Appalachian Mountain region of Eastern Kentucky.

Retirement Insurance Advisor
Alan Thomas
Alan Thomas is a licensed professional who works primarily with postal and federal employees on insurance and retirement planning. With years of hands-on experience in the postal and federal markets, Alan understands how complex these benefit systems can be and how critical it is to make informed decisions that align with long-term goals.
Alan has worked directly with postal and federal employees across multiple states, conducting benefit reviews and helping clients understand how their insurance and retirement choices fit together. That experience gave him a deep respect for the responsibility involved in serving people who have spent decades in public service and are now preparing for the next chapter of their lives.
Today, Alan focuses on guiding postal and federal employees through insurance and retirement planning conversations. Whether you’re trying to understand how your insurance coverage changes at retirement, how to protect your family with the right strategy, or how to think through your options for retirement, Alan brings clarity to the conversation and helps clients make decisions that make sense for their situation.
Alan has been married to his wife, Angie, for over 40 years, and together they have four grown children. Family, faith, and service are central to his life and guide how he approaches both work and relationships. Alan believes he was called to this profession to serve others with integrity, patience, and care, and he treats every client as someone he is honored to help.
If you’re a postal or federal employee looking for thoughtful guidance from someone who understands your benefits and approaches this work with purpose, Alan is here to help.

Retirement Insurance Advisor
Joshua Thomas
Not everyone comes to insurance the same way. For Joshua, it was personal. He had watched people close to him arrive at retirement without a plan, without protection, and without the options they deserved, and that stayed with him.
Joshua has made it his mission to serve federal employees. These are hardworking men and women who dedicate their lives to public service but often don’t have a full picture of the benefits available to them. He takes a direct, no-nonsense approach with every client, making sure they understand exactly what they have, what they’re missing, and what they can do about it.
Joshua is based in Fernandina Beach, Florida, where he is committed to helping federal employees and their families protect what they’ve worked for and step into retirement with confidence.
